Minnewaska State Park Preserve and Sam’s Point

Located in Ulster County, NY, Minnewaska State Park Preserve, and Sam’s Point are situated on the dramatic Shawangunk Mountain Ridge, which rises more than 2,000 feet above sea level and is surrounded by rugged, rocky terrain. Minnewaska Park Preserve features numerous waterfalls, four crystalline sky lakes, dense hardwood forests, world-class rock climbing and 35 miles of carriage roads and 35 miles of footpaths on which to bike, walk, hike and simply enjoy. And, all this within an hour and a half drive from New York City.

Sam’s Point, which includes a separate visitor center and fun features such as an ice cave, is connected and part of Minnewaska.

  • Restrooms

  • Barbecuing/Cooking not permitted anywhere within the parks, and no dogs allowed in picnic areas

  • Dogs must be on a leash of no more than 6ft

  • Dogs are not allowed in swimming areas, picnic areas, on ski trails or in the visitor center
