At landowner Elmer Van Orden's death, the PIPC immediately sought to acquire the property. A campaign led by the Hudson River Conservation Society and the Rockland County Conservation Association, and supported by dozens of groups and individuals, raised sufficient funds to purchase the property, which was transferred to the Commission in April, 1943. At the same time, Archer Huntington decided to donate his own 470-acre estate, which included Little Tor.
The Park is open from 8:00AM - sunset for hiking and picnicking. The pool will be open June 15, 2019 through August 11, 2019. The pool seasonal hours are: Monday - Friday from 10:00AM – 6:30PM and weekends from 11:00AM to 7:30PM.
