NOTICE: The transformation of our visitor experience is underway. We are presently working on phase 1 improvements, which include formalized parking, better vehicular and visitor circulation, pedestrian access paths, improved ADA accessibility, undergrounding utilities, and the construction of a sanitary sewer system, which will serve the upcoming Visitor Center, which will be constructed in Phase 2.
The Park Preserve IS open during construction, but we have a REDUCED parking capacity. Please plan to arrive early to get the best parking! Due to ongoing construction, and reduced parking capacity, horse trailer and bus parking will only be available on Non-Holiday Weekdays. The park opens daily at 9:00 AM.
Located in Ulster County, NY, Minnewaska State Park Preserve is situated on the dramatic Shawangunk Mountain Ridge, which rises more than 2,000 feet above sea level and is surrounded by rugged, rocky terrain. The Park Preserve features numerous waterfalls, four crystalline sky lakes, dense hardwood forests, world-class rock climbing and 35 miles of carriage roads and 35 miles of footpaths on which to bike, walk, hike and simply enjoy. And, all this within an hour and a half drive from New York City.
Pets Dogs only, must be on a leash not more than six feet. Dogs ARE NOT allowed in buildings, camping, picnic or bathing areas or on walkways. PLEASE NOTE: Pets are NOT permitted on the cross-country ski trails when they are groomed and open for cross-country skiing only.
Barbequing/Cooking is not permitted at any location within Minnewaska State Park Preserve. The use of drones is PROHIBITED at Minnewaska State Park Preserve. Amplified music is PROHIBITED throughout the Park Preserve.
There is NO camping allowed within Minnewaska. As an alternative, contact the Samuel F. Pryor III Shawangunk Gateway Campground, which is owned by PIPC but managed by the American Alpine Club . It is located about 10 minutes from the entrance to the Minnewaska main entrance.
Minnewaska State Park Preserve consists of more than 23,000 acres of wild and scenic land. The fee for parking at Minnewaska is $10 per car.
