Forest bathing, defined as 'making contact with and taking in the atmosphere of the forest' by the National Institute of Health, is not your typical day hike. Research has demonstrated that immersing oneself in the natural environment and slowly absorbing the sights, sounds, textures and scents of nature around us can have a tangible impact on our health, including reducing the physical symptoms associated with stress like high blood pressure and anxiety. This program offers an opportunity for self-care and to introduce the concept of practicing mindfulness in some of our most beautiful protected areas within the Palisades Interstate Park system.
Please Bring: Water, comfortable outdoor-ready shoes (that slip on and off if you'd like to try going barefoot!), loose-fitting clothing with layers appropriate for the weather, bug-spray, hat, sunglasses, and any other materials you feel you may need to be able to fully relax. Please consider leaving your cell phone and electronics at home, or make arrangements so that you can keep your phone on silent during the event.
Special Note: Goosepond does not have a restroom, so please consider using the facilities right before you arrive. There is a McDonalds nearby in Chester located at 73 Brookside Ave, Chester, NY 10918. Also, when finding the location, please note it is near the intersection of Laroe Road: look for Open Space Institute logo and kiosk.
